Indiana is hosting Michigan today for their first dual meet of the year.

We will get transfer Caspar Corbeau in an Indiana cap for the first time after he transferred from Texas midseason.

Women’s 200 Medley Relay

Top 5 Relays

The IU women started the meet off strong, picking up a win in the 200 medley relay by over a second. Kacy McKenna led off in 24.08, Kabria Chapman swam the breast at 27.27, Miranda Grana swam fly in 23.11, and Kristina Paegle did the free in 21.01. Their final time of 1:35.47 is the fastest the team has been this season, besting the 1:35.90 they went at the Ohio State Invitational. It also currently ranks them 10th in the NCAA.

Michigan came in 2nd with their team of Casey Chung (24.65), Letitia Sim (27.33), Brady Kendall (23.35), and Lindsay Flynn (21.34), swimming 1:36.57. They have been 1:36.17 this season.

Mya Dewitt led off the Indiana ‘B’ relay in 24.00, which is faster than McKenna’s backstroke leg on the A, and was the fastest in the field.

The Indiana men started the meet fast. Their ‘A’ and ‘B’ relays would both rank in the top1-10 in the NCAa this season, coming in at 6th and 7th respectively. This is an improvement from where heir ‘B’ currently sits on the list in 7th place, after beating the ‘A’ at the Ohio State Invite.

The ‘B’ had faster splits on three of the four legs, sitting almost a second in front going into the freestyle.

Luke Barr led off in 20.88 a little more than two tenths faster than Miroslav Knedla‘s 21.13 leading off the ‘A’ relay. Caspar Corbeau swam his first race in an Indiana cap on the ‘B’ breaststroke leg, splitting a 22.84 to beat Brian Benzing‘s 23.06. Finn Brooks swam the fly leg for the ‘B’, coming in at 19.60 to Tomer Frankel‘s 19.92.

Despite leading most of the race, it came down to the freestyle leg, and ‘B’ relay anchor Mikkel Lee‘s 19.37 could not hold off Matt King‘s 18.53 on the ‘A’ leaving them to finish five one-hundredths back.

If you add the fastest splits together, Indiana’s 200 medley comes in at 1:21.85, which would rank them 4th this year, behind Florida, ASU, and Tennessee.

Michigan’s team of Jack Wilkening (21.26), Ozan Kalaft (23.77), Tyler Ray (19.73), and Bence Szabados (19.04) took 3rd.

Women’s 1000 Free

Freshman Rebecca Diaconescu from Michigan took the top spot in the 1000 yard freestyle, coming in at 9:32.96, which is a three-and-a-half second drop from her personal and season best time of 9:36.45, which she went to open her mile at the Georgia Tech Invite. This is the 6th fastest time in Division I this year.

Ching Gan picked up 2nd for Indiana in 9:38.27, an add from her her best of 9:30.07 from last February.

Men’s 1000 Free

Junior transfer Zalan Sarkany won the 1000 free for Indiana, swimming 8:43.80 in the event. Sarkany currently sits in 2nd for the season at the 8:39.44 he went vs Texas in November.

Jon Jontvedt, a freshman from Michigan, touched 2nd in 8:55.40, two tenths faster than his season and personal best of 8:55.68.

IU grabbed third with Saddeddin Saadeddin’s 9:06.44, which is a seven second drop from his season best of 9:13.75.

Women’s 200 Free

  3. Malia Amuan (MICH)- 1:46.00

Anna Peplowski blasted a 200 free time of 1:41.63 to win the event for Indiana and earn the fastest time in the nation this season. Peplowski currently sits in 3rd with the 1:42.36 mark she set at the Ohio State Invite, but with her time today she will jump ahead of Michigan’s Stephanie Balduccini’s 1:41.85.

Balduccini, a sophomore, was also in the race, coming in 2nd in 1:43.65 for Michigan. Her best time in the event is that 1:41.85 from the Georgia Tech Invite earlier this season

Men’s 200 Free

Rafael Miroslaw from Indiana touched first in the men’s 200 freestyle, stopping the clock at 1:31.94. This is only Miroslaw’s 2nd meet back with Indiana, after not competing for them the first semester due to the World Cup and World Championships. This time is just off his best of 1:30.76 from last year’s NCAA Championships. His time today is good for 10th in this season’s Division I rankings.

IU also took 2nd and 3rd with Luke Barr going 1:33.77 and Cooper McDonald swimming 1:34.76

Women’s 100 Back

  2. Mya DeWitt (IU)- 52.03
  3. Kacey McKenna (IU)- 52.43
  4. Lexi Greenhawt (MICH)- 52.81
  5. Casey Chung (MICH)- 53.45

Indiana took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore transfer Miranda Grana took 1st in 51.29. Her personal best in the event is 50.65 from SECs last year, and she has been 51.04 this season. Mya DeWitt took 2nd in 52.03, and Kacey McKenna was 3rd at 52.43. All three girls have been faster this season.

Lexi Greenhawt got 4th for Michigan, coming in at 52.81. This was a new season best for her, improving from the 53.48 she went in prelims at the Georgia Tech Invite.

Men’s 100 Back

Indiana junior, Owen McDonald, won the 100 backstroke in 45.00. He was 44.25 at the 2024 NCAAs, and he went 44.93 Ohio State Invitational.

IU also earned 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the event. Miroslav Knedla placed 2nd in 45.63, an add from his season best of 45.27. Gavin Wight placed 4th in 45.97, and Kai Van Westering was 5th at 46.65. Both added from their season and personal best times.

Jack Wilkening from Michigan was 3rd, swimming 45.94 in the event, which was an add from his season best of 45.48.

Women’s 100 Breast

  2. Mary Elizabeth Cespedes (IU)- 1:00.67
  3. Letitia Sim (MICH)- 1:00.71
  4. Devon Kitchel (MICH)- 1:00.99

Brearna Crawford won the women’s 100 breast for Indiana in 1:00.44. This was only three one-hundredths off her season best of 1:00.41 from the Ohio State Invite. She has a lifetime best of 59.32 from November 2021.

Mary Elizabeth Cespedes went a new lifetime best of 1:00.67 for 2nd, improving from the 1:00.88 she went at midseason.

Letitia Sim placed 3rd in 1:00.71, an add from the 59.46 she went at the Georgia Tech Invite in November.

Men’s 100 Breast

Indiana took the top five fastest times in the men’s 100 breaststroke, but were only able to score four. Despite going a slower split on the relay, Brian Benzing had the fastest 100 breaststroke of the day, finishing in 51.45. Benzing has been 51.03 this season, currently ranking him 6th in the NCAA. This was just four one-hundredths ahead of Caspar Corbeau‘s 51.49 for 2nd.

Josh Matheny grabbed 3rd in 52.31 and Jassen Yep was 4th at 52.75. IU also had the 5th fastest time of the morning with Alexi Avakov swimming 53.16 in the event. Only four people are allowed to score in each individual event, however, so Avakov had to be exhibition.

Ozan Kalaft from Michigan took the one point associated with 5th with his 53.52.

Women’s 200 Fly

Sophomore Hannah Bellard from Michigan took the top spot in the 200 fly at 1:55.31. Her best time in the event is 1:53.20 from March of last year, and she has been 1:53.45 this season.

Indiana took the 2-4 spots, starting with 5th year Anna Freed taking 2nd in 1:57.70 This was a new season best for Freed who swam 1:58.95 at the Ohio State Invite. She has a personal best of 1:56.65 from last March.

Lily Hann rounded out the top three, coming in at 1:58.34, an add from the 1:57.93 she went in November vs Texas.

Men’s 200 Fly

  3. Tomer Frankel (IU)- 1:42.59
  4. Gal Groumi (MICH)- 1:43.91
  5. Raekwon Noel (IU)-1:44.88

Colin Geer went 1:42.31 in the 200 fly to pick up the Michigan men’s first event win of the meet. This time was about a second off his season best of 1:41.43, but was enough to just barely out-touch teammate Tyler Ray who went 1:42.36 for 2nd. This is the fastest Ray has swam in the event this season, besting the 1:43.61 he went in prelims at the Georgia Tech Invite.

Tomer Frankel was Indianas highest placing swimmer, coming in 3rd at 1:42.59.

Women’s 50 Free

  2. Lindsay Flynn (MICH)- 21.89
  3. Jose Connelly (MICH)- 22.55
  4. Sze Yeo (IU)- 22.58
  5. Brady Kendall (MICH)- 22.68

The women’s 50 free went to Kristina Paegle in 21.87, a new season best for her, improving from the 21.92 she swam at the Ohio State Invite. Her lifetime best in the eventstands at 21.76 from November 2023.

Lindsay Flynn grabbed 2nd for Michigan, swimming a new personal best time. Flynn came into the meet at 21.90 from February 2023, which she improved by one-one hundredth. This was also her first time under 22 seconds this season.

Men’s 50 Free

  1. Matt King (IU)- 19.29
  2. Finn Brooks (IU)- 19.57
  3. Mikkel Lee (IU)- 19.76
  4. Bence Szabados (MICH)- 19.78
  5. Ole Mats Eidam (MICH)- 19.85

This is Matt King’s 2nd meet of the year for the Hoosier’s and he won the 50 free in 19.29 for Indiana, five tenths faster than his season best of 19.78 from last week vs Florida. King’s lifetime best is 18.96 from February 2021.

Finn Brooks and Mikkel Lee took 2nd and 3rd for the Hoosiers, coming in at 19.57 and 19.76 respectively. Both men have been faster this school year.

 Women’s 1-Meter Diving

  1. Lily Witte (IU)- 315.30
  2. Kiarra Milligan (MICH)- 313.05
  3. Ella Roselli (IU)- 308.25
  4. Chrimson Clark (MICH)- 305.63
  5. Mary Kate Cavanaugh (IU)- 292.05

Indiana sophomore Lily Witte won the 1-meter diving event, scoring a total of 315.30. She came in just over three points ahead of second place Kiarra Milligan from Michigan who dove 313.05.

Ella Roselli from Indiana was not far behind, scoring 308.25 for 3rd in the event.

Men’s 1-Meter Diving

  1. Quin Henniger (IU)- 436.05
  2. Max Weinrich (IU)- 382.05
  3. Julian Cardenas (MICH)- 361.20
  4. Joshua Solenberger (IU)- 357.00
  5. Logan Hepner (MICH)- 319.50

Quin Henninger won the men’s event for Indiana pretty handedly. His total sore of 436.05 came in 54 points ahead of 2nd place Max Weinrich, also from Indiana, who scored 382.05.

Julian Cardenas was Michigan’s highest point scorer in the event, placing 3rd with 361.20 points.

Women’s 100 Free

  2. Lindsay Flynn (MICH)- 47.83
  3. Setphanie Balduccini (MICH)- 48.05
  4. Kristina Paegle (IU)- 48.47
  5. Claire Newman (MICH)- 49.25

Anna Peplowski picked up her 2nd win of the day in the 100 free coming in at 47.68. This was a new season best time for Peplowski who led off the 4×100 free relay at the Ohio State Invite in 48.04. She has as a best time of 47.18 from the 2024 NCAA Championships. This time improves her ranking to 10th in Division I this season.

Lindsay Flynn took 2nd for Michigan in 47.83. This was a season best for Flynn who went 47.97 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.

Men’s 100 Free

  2. Matt King (IU)- 42.68
  3. Luke Barr (IU)- 43.24
  4. Vidar Carlbaum (IU)/Gal Groumi (MICH)- 44.24

Indiana picked up another event win in the 100 free with Rafael Miroslaw’s 42.22. This was just seven tenths back of his lifetime best of 41.63.

Indiana also took 2nd, 3rd, 4th in the event with Matt King coming 2nd in 42.68 Luke Barr placed 3rd in 43.24 and Vidar Carlbaum tied for 4th at 44.24.

Gal Groumi was Michigan’s only point scorer in the event, coming in at 44.24 to tie with Carlbaum for 4th

Indiana’s Mya DeWitt grabbed the win in the 200 backstroke, a new best time in the event. DeWitt went 1:53.35 to drop almost a second from her previous best of 1:54.11 from Indiana’s dual meet with Texas in November.

Elyse Heiser got 2nd for Indiana in 1:56.54
