Owen McDonald followed up a strong relay performance last night with a new BIG 10 conference meet record in the men’s 200 IM on Day 2 of the meet.

200 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY – FINAL

  • NCAA Record: 1:36.34 – Leon Marchand, Arizona State (2023)
  • Meet Record: 1:40.48 – Gal Groumi, Michigan (2024)

The previous record in the event was 1:40.48 from last year. This is McDonald’s first Big 10 Championships, as he swam for ASU for his first two years of college before transferring to Indiana this season.

His swim tonight marked his third time under the 1:40 barrier, with his fastest time coming in at 1:39.23 from last year’s NCAA Championships, where he finished 2nd overall. He currently sits as the 9th fastest performer in history with this performance. He also went under at last year’s PAC-12s where he went 1:39.35. This season, his time comes in 2nd in the NCAA, behind Florida’s Julian Smith at 1:39.38.

The former Big 10 meet record holder, Michigan’s Gal Groumi, was also in the event, and he was also under the former record, coming in at 1:40.34 for 2nd place overall.
