Sebastien de Fabrique has announced his commitment to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy. Fabrique recently graduated from San Clemente High School in California, and will begin his college career this fall with the 2024-2025 season. He comes from a family of successful swimmers – his father, Yann de Fabrique, is a French Olympian, while his mother, Julie (Varozza) de Fabrique, won an NCAA championship title while swimming at Georgia.

“I look forward to serving my country while receiving a great education.”

De Fabrique trains and competes year-round with the San Clemente Aquatics Team, with his primary event focus being distance freestyle. He is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 1650, as well as holds Futures standards in the 100 up to the 1000.

One of de Fabrique’s top meets this season was the CA/NV Speedo Sectionals held this past December. In the 1650, he dropped over twenty seconds post a time of 15:37.48 for 11th, while in the 500 he took off over four seconds to stop the clock at 4:32.58 to take 16th overall.

He lowered his 500 time even further during his high school season this spring. At the South Coast League Championship, de Fabrique was the runner-up in the event with a 4:32.02. He went on to finish 8th at the CIF-SS Division I Championship (4:32.63) and finished off his high school season with a 32nd place finish at the CIF State Championship (4:44.00).

  • 1000 free – 9:24.54
  • 1650 free – 15:37.48

Led by long-time head coach Bill Roberts, the Navy men maintained their perfect record at the Patriot League Championships by securing their 20th team title. De Fabrique is in a strong position to help Navy maintain their streak, as his best time in the 1650 would have earned 10th at this year’s meet.

The 1650 was one of Navy’s weaker events this season, with their top finisher being Luca Oliva in 6th (15:29.60). Zach Stump, the only other swimmer from Navy entered in the event, recorded a 15:40.76 en route to a 10th place finish. Both Stump and Oliva will still be on campus when de Fabrique arrives, giving Navy the chance to build more distance freestyle depth.

Joining de Fabrique in the Navy’s class of 2028 is Dean Jones, Jack Ussery, Casey Aten, Aaron Mendoza, Cameron Brenton, Will de la Garza, Noah Robinson, Nathaniel Gorsuch, and Max Buchen.
