For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Cade Doherty of Richmond, Texas, has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wyoming. Doherty has one more year remaining at Foster High School, and will arrive in Laramie next fall for the 2025-2026 season.
“GO POKES!!”
Doherty, a sprint freestyle specialist, trains and competes year-round with the First Colony Swim Team based out of Sugar Land. His top event is the 50 freestyle, which he is a 2024 Futures qualifier in. Last summer, he finished 8th in the event at the Southern Senior Zone Championship (24.80), clocking a best time of 24.61 in prelims.
He represented his high school this spring across the UIL District, Region, and State Championships. He ultimately finished 8th at the state meet with a time of 21.47, which is about half a second shy of the personal best he set en route to a 3rd place finish at the Region meet (20.96). Over the course of the past season, he lowered his 50 by nearly half a second from his season best last year (21.40).
Doherty’s other main event is the 100 fly, which he finished 12th in at the UIL State Championship (51.50). His personal best of 50.97 was also set at the Region meet just before state, which is about two seconds quicker than he ended last season at.

The Wyoming men compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), where they finished 4th out of 6 teams at this year’s WAC Championships. It took a 20.67 to advance to the B-final in the 50 free, putting Doherty about three tenths out with over a year to go before arriving on campus.
Matthew Lang was the team’s top performer in the 50 with an 8th place finish at conference (20.18). Quinn Cynor owned the next fastest time on the season with a 20.34 lead off split, while Quinn Teller rounded out the top three with a season best of 20.48.
Doherty joins fellow Texas natives Travis Ayers and Jack Boysen in Wyoming’s recruiting class of 2025. Boysen is Doherty’s club teammate at the First Colony Swim Team.
