David Cooper will join the Princeton women’s swimming and diving staff for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, serving as an assistant coach. Cooper is the 2nd assistant coach to be hired for the team this offseason.

“We are excited to welcome David to the pool deck and add him to the PWSD family,” said Princeton women’s head coach Abby Brethauer. “He will bring a youthful energy and a keen eye to the deck. I have had the opportunity to get to know him & watch him coach over the past couple of years and have no doubt he will be a great addition to the team and be a huge asset to the women as we embark on the next season.”

Cooper arrives at Princeton after most recently serving as an assistant coach of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) for the 2023-2024 season. The TCNJ men captured the 2024 New Jersey Athletic Conference title while the women finished 7th out of 10 teams.

In addition to coaching at TCNJ, Cooper has also spent time at the club level, serving as an assistant coach of Xcel Swim Team from January 2022-July 2024. He also was the head coach of Nassau Summer Swim Team for summer 2022.

Prior to his time at TCNJ, Cooper was a student-athlete at another school in New Jersey as he spent his collegiate career with Division I Rider. He graduated in 2023.

“I am very excited about coming on board to help coach the Women’s Swimming team,” said Cooper. “This is a great opportunity to help work with a strong group of athletes with an excellent coaching staff!”

Cooper is the 2nd assistant coach hired this offseason as Kelsey Reott joined the staff at the beginning of July after most recently spending time at Pitt. Notably, the Princeton women’s team only had 1 assistant coach, Juan Sequera this past season. Sequera will not be on the staff for the upcoming season. With two assistant coaches, the women’s program is now taking advantage of the NCAA rule put in effect last year that allows single-gender programs to have an additional assistant coach.

The Princeton women captured the 2024 Ivy League Championship title and sent 5 swimmers to the NCAA Championships, the most of any mid-major program.
