Patrick Malone has been named the new assistant coach of the Rutgers University women’s swimming and diving program.

Malone will be taking over the role from Casmera Wick, who was an assistant at Rutgers for three years. Wick will be taking over as the head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming coach at Arcadia University in the fall.

Head coach Jon Maccoll expressed his enthusiasm to have Malone joining the Rutgers coaching staff for the upcoming season.

“We are excited to welcome Pat Malone to help lead our program,” Maccoll said. “His exceptional relationship-building skills, recruiting acumen and training expertise will be invaluable to our team. His passion and dedication are sure to drive our program to new levels of success.”

Malone joins the Scarlet Knights after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at UMBC. While there he helped lead the men’s program to clinch back-to-back America East Championships, winning the title in 2022 and 2023. Under Malone’s tutelage, the men’s and women’s teams also produced a combined total of 36 America East champions.

Prior to his stint in Baltimore, Malone served as the head coach at Manhattan College for nearly three years between 2019 and 2021. After jumping in mid-season in January of 2019, Malone led the Jaspers to achieve 11 top-16 finishes at the Metro Atlantic Conference Championships while also being named to the CSCAA Scholar America Team every season.

Malone’s first collegiate coaching position, which included a stint as interim head coach, was at Long Island University, where he oversaw 29 top-eight performances over three seasons at the Northeast Conference Championships.

A New Jersey native, Malone competed for Rowan University, where he was a DIII Honorable Mention All-American and earned NJAC First-Team All-Conference honors in the 200 fly. On the academic side, he was a three-time Academic All-American and was recognized as a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and a Philadelphia Inquirer Men’s Swimming Academic All-Area honoree.

Malone also received the Rowan’s Richard Wacker Award for upperclassmen leadership as a team captain.

Malone earned his bachelor’s degree in geography with a concentration in geosciences from Rowan in 2014 before receiving a master’s in education in adolescence urban education – social studies from LIU in 2018.

Malone will kick off his first season as an assistant at Rutgers in the 2024-2025 season.
