Marissa DeMarco, a New York native, is set to compete for the University of Tampa this fall. DeMarco, who attended Longwood High School in Middle Island, NY, currently swims for the Three Village Swim Club.
I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tampa! I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have guided me throughout this whole process. This wouldn’t be possible with out you all. Can’t wait to be a part of the UT team!!!!
At the 2023 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East, DeMarco set a PB in the 200 breast (2:19.93) and was just a hundredth off her PB in the 100 breast (1:03.70). Those swims helped her place 62nd and 43rd, respectively, at the meet. Just 4 months prior to that, DeMarco had an excellent Eastern Zone Senior Championships (LCM). She placed 3rd in the 100 breast (1:13.75), 7th in the 200 breast (2:45.02), 32nd in the 200 IM (2:32.50), and 27th in the 400 IM (5:24.35). All 4 swims were personal bests.
Top Times SCY:
- 100 breast – 1:03.69
- 200 breast – 2:19.93
- 200 IM – 2:10.47
- 400 IM – 4:36.34
The University of Tampa is a Division 2 School, and a member of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). At the 2024 SSC Championships, the Lady Spartans finished 2nd behind Nova Southeastern. DeMarco will join Tampa with a school-leading time in the 100 breast, as Cameron Dukat was the Spartans’ fastest 100 breast this past season with a 1:03.91. DeMarco additionally would have ranked 3rd on Tampa’s roster in the 200 breast, behind Dukat (2:16.31) and Katie Ramsey (2:19.37). Dukat is a rising junior, which will allow for 2 years of overlap between her and DeMarco.
To A-final at the 2024 SSC Championships, it took times of 1:04.60/2:23.37 in the 100/200 breast. DeMarco’s best of 1:03.69 would have finished 5th in the 100, while in the 200, she would have placed 7th. With 2 A-final worthy times, DeMarco will have an immediate impact at Tampa.
DeMarco will join fellow future Spartans Shehani Venturi (breast), Suki Burgstiner (sprint free), Burley Bokos (fly/IM), Alyssa Webb (free), Brooke Mahneke (sprint free), Julia Kiley (breast), and Carlie Tyler (back/IM) in UTampa’s class of 2028.
