Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Colin Candebat, a two-time Louisiana high school state champion, will be heading to Arkansas this fall to swim for Henderson State University.
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my academic and athletic career at Henderson State University,” Candebat said. “I would like to thank all the coaches I have had over the years for helping me get to where I am today, my friends for the constant support, and my mom for everything that she does. I am thankful for Coach Serio and Coach Buls for letting me be a part of the Henderson family. Go Reddies!”
As a member of the Destrehan High School swim team, Candebat qualified for and swam at the LHSAA Division 1 Championship all four years. His senior year, Candebat won the 100 breast in a time of 58.12 and the 200 IM in a time of 1:52.98, bringing him his only two individual state championship titles and marking personal best times.
Candebat trains year-round with Crawfish Aquatics, where he has swam for the past 13 years, and is a versatile threat in the water, as he excels at breaststroke and IM but also performs well in butterfly and freestyle.
At the Louisiana Senior Short Course State Championships back in February, Candebat won the 200 and 400 IM (1:51.76/3:59.66), as well as the 200 fly (1:49.79). In addition to his victories, he was runner-up in the 200 free (1:39.65) and took 3rd in the 200 breast (2:06.17) and 1000 free (9:32.79).
Best Times SCY:
- 100 Breast – 58.12
- 200 Breast – 2:04.72
- 200 IM – 1:51.76
- 400 IM – 3:59.66
- 200 Fly – 1:49.79
- 200 Free – 1:39.65
Henderson State is a Division II school that competes in the New South Conference. The 2024 New South Conference Championships saw the men’s team secure their first NSISC title in 19 years, adding to the program’s recent accolades. Henderson produced a three-time national champion, Lamar Taylor, at the 2023 NCAA championships, and the team was #7 on the ranking of top Division II programs for the 2023-2024 season.
Candebat’s times have him poised to be a top contributor for the Red Wave right from the start. At the conference championships, his personal bests would have placed 3rd overall in the 200 fly and the 400 IM, 4th in the 200 free, 6th in the 200 IM and 7th in 200 breast, giving him no shortage of options for his championship event lineup to score significant points.
Other members of HSU’s class of 2028 include Vitor Sa, Leo Wesley, Aiden Killackey, Zach Ponder, Wisthon Rendon, Luka Herceg and Colton Bennett.
