For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Kileigh Ackerman, an Evergreen, Colorado native, will swim for the University of Redlands starting this fall. Ackerman recently graduated from Evergreen High School, and swam at the club level for the Evergreen Hurricanes.
I’m super excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Redlands. I can’t thank my family, coaches, and friends enough for supporting me over the years! Go Bulldogs!!
Ackerman capped off her high school career at the Colorado 3A state championships, where she took 8th in the 100 back (1:01.74) and 10th in the 50 free (26.25). Since the meet was swam in Thornton, Colorado, which is 5,351 feet above sea level, Ackerman’s 100 back was altitude adjusted to 1:01.64. With those swims, Ackerman helped Evergreen to a runner up finish, placing only 11 points behind the champions, Saint Marys.
Just a few months prior, Ackerman swam at the CO CSI Pioneer Open, where she established 4 new personal bests. She swam a 1:00.05 in the 100 back in prelims before adding just over a tenth (1:00.20) to take 20th overall. She additionally swam a 2:08.56 in the 200 back to place 13th, a 1:04.05 in the 100 fly, and a 2:24.90 in the 200 fly.
Best times:
- 100 back – 1:00.05
- 200 back – 2:08.56
Redlands is a DIII school and competes in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). At the 2024 SCIAC Championships, Redlands finished in 8th out of 9 teams. Their highest scoring swimmer was breastroker Morgan Felix, who took 12th in both the 100 and 200 breast.
Ackerman will look to boost Redland’s backstroke group, as both her 100 and 200 back PBs would have led the school this past season. Ackerman is also comfortably under what it took to qualify for a night swim at the 2024 SCIAC Championships, as times of 1:01.39/2:17.00 in the 100/200 back were the B-final cutoffs.
In addition to Ackerman, Redlands signed Ana-Adela Duran, Lina Matera, Harper Tarros, Rylie Kohl, Kalie Itow, Madi Greer, Mackenzie Neese, Diana Lopez, and Analise Belasco to their class of 2028. Duran, who holds bests of 1:00.73/2:13.33 in the 100/200 back, will look to join Ackerman in strengthening the backstroke group at Redland.
